Jumeirah Thanda Safari
Situated on 14,000 hectares of land on the east coast of South Africa, about a three-hour drive from Durban, Jumeirah Thanda Safari is a sustainable luxury reserve, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and a multiple award winner as “World’s Leading Luxury Lodge”. Jumeirah Thanda Safari is home not only to the famous Big Five, but also to many regional steppe game species and over 300 different bird species. Owned by Swedish philanthropist and entrepreneur couple Christin and Dan Olofsson, the reserve combines significant sustainability and community projects in the middle of Zulu land with unforgettable safari experiences, authentic encounters with local culture, and special highlights for lovers, families, and safari photography enthusiasts.
Unlike many other safari operators, family safaris are available at Jumeirah Thanda Safari. Children of all ages are welcome at Jumeirah Thanda Safari Lodge and Villa iZulu, and from the age of eight at Jumeirah Thanda Tented Camp. Especially Villa iZulu, situated in a fenced garden, is ideal for younger children. In addition to special children’s rates, nannies and a kids’ club, Jumeirah Thanda Safari also offers safari courses especially for children, where younger guests can learn about Africa’s wildlife in a playful way and become certified as junior rangers at the Thanda Bush School.
